Michael Apted
Michael Apted was an acclaimed British director and documentarian. Born in 1941, he began his career as a researcher on the groundbreaking "Up Series" of documentaries, starting with 7 Up (1964), which followed a group of British children from diverse social backgrounds as they grew up. Since 1964, Apted returned to this series every seven years interviewing the same people, and creating a unique and enduring document of the passage of time which has continued through 63 Up (2019). Alongside these documentaries, Apted has directed many notable narrative films including Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), Gorillas in the Mist (1988), and Nell (1994). Numerous films he directed, from his documentaries to his fiction films, are available to stream for free online and we've collected them here. Apted remained an active and prolific filmmaker until his passing in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary films.
