After Hours (1984)

From the Film Australia Collection. Made by Film Australia 1984. Directed by Jane Campion. A sensitive portrayal of a young office worker who alleges sexual abuse by her employer. She loses her job as a result of her claims. This dramatised situation looks at the ways in which an employee can be victimised in an office environment without those around being aware of the situation. It pursues notions of truth such as legal truth, truth of experience and who possesses truth. The investigator for the case has a difficult task in extracting evidence from people associated with the manager and is left with many unanswered questions. One of Jane Campion's earliest films her unique vision is already obvious here. The themes and layered perspectives she would bring to many of her later feature films and TV work can clearly be seen in After Hours.
