Movie Description
The Big Country is a 1958 Western film directed by William Wyler. The film stars Gregory Peck as retired, wealthy sea captain James McKay, who moves west to marry his fiancée Patricia Terrill (Carroll Baker). On arriving, McKay finds himself caught up in a bitter land feud between his future father-in-law, Henry Terrill (Charles Bickford), and the tough Rufus Hannassey (Burl Ives), patriarch of a rival family. The film is known for its sweeping Technicolor vistas. Burl Ives won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his memorable performance as Rufus Hannassey. Charlton Heston is also in the cast in one of his few supporting roles.
