Alligator (1980)

This alligator hunt has a slow start, but John Sayles's script piles on enough wacky subplots that it turns into a hilarious affair. Robert Forster is the thoroughly likable lead as a troubled cop and this movie is filled with funny character actors from Michael Gazzo (of Godfather Part II fame) to a fantastic cameo by Henry Silva as the World's greatest crocodile hunter. The giant alligator special effects are both effective and laughable as it eats dozens of citizens in sewers, lakes, alley ways, and even a swimming pool. The sewer photography looks great all the way down to the final showdown between man and alligator. Never flush an alligator down the toilet!
