Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando was one of the most influential movie actors of all time. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1924, and began his acting career on the stage before transitioning to film in the early 1950s. With his brooding good looks, smoldering intensity, and raw emotional power, Brando quickly became a sensation and helped to redefine what it meant to be a movie star. He was the embodiment of the Method acting technique, which he helped to popularize. Brando's early performances, in films such as A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), The Wild One (1953), and On the Waterfront (1954), brought a level of authenticity that had never been seen before on film. He directed and starred in the underrated cult western One-Eyed Jacks (1961), but it was a commercial failure and he had numerous box-office flops in the 1960s. Brando made a comeback in the 1970s with his roles in The Godfather (1972) and Last Tango in Paris (1972). He was famously difficult to work with, and the rest of his career was marked by periods of inactivity and erratic behavior. He was a true iconoclast, a man who pushed the boundaries of what was possible on screen and paved the way for generations of actors to come. We've collected a number of his films that are available to stream for free online here.
